Chelsea captain Gary Cahill reveals that he will consider retiring from England duty following the 2018 World Cup.

Chelsea captain Gary Cahill has revealed that he will consider retiring from international duty following the 2018 World Cup.

Cahill has only played once for England at this summer's finals, and was not involved in Wednesday's 2-1 defeat to Croatia in the semi-finals of the competition.

The central defender could face Belgium in the third-place playoff match on Saturday afternoon though, with Three Lions boss Gareth Southgate expected to make changes.

The 32-year-old has said that he will "have a good conversation" with Southgate following the World Cup.

"I'm going to have a good conversation with the manager about the future in the coming month," Cahill told reporters. "But I can finish my England career knowing I've played every possible fixture I can play in the times I've been selected.

"[The playoff] is a very strange game, because it's a fixture for two teams coming off the back of a disappointment, but the game is there and we need to play it. So if you're asking if I want to play, yeah, I do. If selected I'll go out and give it everything I've got."

Cahill has scored five times in 61 appearances for the English national team.
