Sven-Goran Eriksson: England "absolutely not winning" World Cup

Former England manager Sven-Goran Eriksson believes that the Three Lions will go no further than the quarter-finals at the World Cup.

Sven-Goran Eriksson has insisted that England have no chance of winning the World Cup in Brazil this summer.

Under his management, the Three Lions reached the quarter-finals of the tournament in both 2002 and 2006.

When asked for his opinion on how the current squad will fare under Roy Hodgson's guidance, the Swede claimed that the best they can hope for is a place in the final eight.

"They're not winning, absolutely not winning. They are not going to win the World Cup, absolutely not," the 66-year-old is quoted as saying by The Telegraph.

"If they get to the quarter-final or more it's a success. I don't think England will win the World Cup. Anything more than the quarter-final would be a tremendous success. There are many teams that are better than England."

England, who won the tournament on home soil in 1966, have not gone beyond the quarter-final stage since 1990.
