The hosts went ahead on the quarter-hour mark when Darron Gibson's cross picked out Kevin Mirallas and the Belgian steered home.

League One Oldham almost hit back instantly when former Toffee Jose Baxter picked up the ball 25 yards out and chipped Tim Howard only to see the effort come back of the inside of the post.

Leighton Baines came close to doubling Everton's lead when he unleashed a drive from 30 yards that Dean Bouzanis had to palm away.

Soon after though the England left-back did net a second from the penalty spot after Connor Brown was adjudged to have handled in the area.

Oldham managed to snatch a 2-2 draw in the original tie to earn tonight's replay. The winner of tonight's match will play Wigan Athletic at home in the quarter-finals.
