Spoils shared between Gazelec Ajaccio, Lorient following 1-1 draw

Gazelec Ajaccio and Lorient are forced to settle for a point each from their Ligue 1 fixture, as the sides play out a 1-1 draw at the Stade Ange Casanova.

Gazelec Ajaccio and Lorient have been forced to share the spoils as they played out a 1-1 draw in Ligue 1 this evening.

Ajaccio's Tunisian midfielder Mohamed Larbi celebrates after scoring a goal during the French L1 football match Gazelec Ajaccio (GFCA) against Lorient (FCL) on November 28, 2015, at the Ange Casanova stadium in Ajaccio, on the French Mediterranean island © Getty Images

Both sides started with some strong attacking intent, but it was Ajaccio who were able to register the game's first goal, as Mohamed Wael Larbi drilled across the box and into the far corner from Roderic Filippi's set piece.

The lead was not to last too long, however, as home defender Issiaga Sylla was penalised for a handball inside the area, allowing for Benjamin Moukandjo to convert from the spot and make it 1-1 after 31 minutes.

Ajaccio almost responded quickly to conceding parity before the break, only for Jacques Zoua to see his header expertly saved by Benjamin Lecomte down towards the bottom corner.

The second half proved to be a less clinical affair as both sides missed chances to take a lead, with both Larbi and Romain Philippoteaux firing wide for their respective sides.

Neither side was able to find the winner as the dying embers proved to be a tense affair, while Issiar Dia might be having a few sleepless nights as he spurned a standout chance for Ajaccio in the 90th minute.
