David Hockaday: 'Leeds United will not sign Liam Cooper'

David Hockaday confirms that Leeds United will not make another bid to sign Chesterfield defender Liam Cooper.

Leeds United manager David Hockaday has confirmed that a proposed move for Chesterfield's Liam Cooper will not go ahead.

Chesterfield confirmed that they had rejected a bid from Leeds for the 22-year-old defender, and Hockaday claims that a transfer was not financially viable for the club.

When asked why the move for Cooper had collapsed, the Leeds boss told BBC Radio Leeds: "Finances. I'd done my homework on the player and we felt it was too much.

"He impressed us when we played against Chesterfield last weekend. He did well against us, and he is a good player and a good prospect.

"Every player has his price and they want too much for him, so we've walked away from it and we will pursue other targets."

Reports this week have suggested that Leeds are considering a move for free agent Nile Ranger.
