Chris Wood scores a second-half brace to fire Nottingham Forest to a 3-1 away win in Friday's East Midlands derby against Leicester City.

Chris Wood scored a brace to fire Nottingham Forest to a 3-1 away win in Friday's East Midlands derby against Leicester City at the King Power Stadium.

Ryan Yates required just 16 minutes to find the breakthrough, whipping the ball into the bottom corner to take advantage of Leicester's failure to clear the ball away from danger.

Leicester ultimately produced an emphatic response to Yates's early strike, with Jamie Vardy tucking the ball home following some impressive build-up play from Harry Winks.

Forest midfielder Nicolas Dominguez threatened to quickly restore Forest's narrow advantage, only to see his close-range effort kept out by Mads Hermansen's superb reflexes.

The Reds were unable to grab another goal before the break, but the travelling support had to wait just two second-half minutes for Wood to give Forest the lead for the second time in the evening.

New Zealand international Wood then pounced on a piece of poor defending to score his second goal of the contest, moving him joint second in the list of Forest's all-time Premier League goalscorers (22) and just two behind Bryan Roy (24).

Wood's second-half brace ultimately proved enough for Forest to get the better of their former manager Steve Cooper.

The win moves the Reds onto 16 points and up to fifth place, while Leicester remain in 14th position in the Premier League table.

LEICESTER CITY VS. NOTTINGHAM FOREST HIGHLIGHTS

Yates goal vs. Leicester (16th min, Leicester 1-0 Forest)

Forest find the breakthrough at the King Power Stadium. Facundo Buonanotte and James Justin both spurn the chance to clear their lines, before Yates strides onto a loose ball to drill a low strike in the bottom corner.

Vardy goal vs. Forest (23rd min, Leicester 1-1 Forest)

The Foxes require just eight minutes to restore parity. After starting the move, Winks eventually receives the ball back in the box before he fires it across for Vardy to guide home his fourth league goal of the season.

Wood goal vs. Leicester (47th min, Leicester 1-2 Forest)

Forest take the lead through their prolific striker. Wood collects the ball with his back to goal, before he swivels and drives a right-footed shot into the bottom corner to score in a fourth consecutive game for club and country.

Wood goal vs. Leicester (60th min, Leicester 1-3 Forest)

Wood pounces on a Wout Faes mistake to score his second and Forest's third. The Leicester centre-back fails to deal with a long ball, nodding into the path of the grateful Wood, who sends his header looping over Hermansen and into the net.

MAN OF THE MATCH - CHRIS WOOD

Wood missed out on our Man of the Match award for Monday's win over Crystal Palace, but there is no disputing that he was the difference maker in this contest.

The 32-year-old was at his clinical best, scoring from both of his two shots on target to clinch all three points for the visitors.

Having scored seven top-flight goals this season, Wood is now sitting in second place in the Premier League scoring charts, with three goals separating him from Erling Haaland.
