Liverpool defender Joel Matip 'to return to fitness for West Ham United clash'

Liverpool defender Joel Matip could reportedly return to action against West Ham United after missing last weekend's Bournemouth defeat with an ankle injury.

Liverpool defender Joel Matip is reportedly expected to be fit for this Sunday's Premier League clash against West Ham United after missing last weekend's defeat to Bournemouth with an ankle injury.

The centre-back was hugely missed by the Reds as Jurgen Klopp's side relinquished a two-goal advantage to lose 4-3 at the Vitality Stadium on Sunday.

This week, Klopp and his players flew out to Barcelona for a two-day team bonding trip, and Matip was among them as he took part in a training session at the Sant-Cugat camp on Tuesday, according to the Liverpool Echo.

Matip's inclusion in the trip suggests that he could be fit for the visit of West Ham this Sunday, which would be a welcome boost for the Reds considering that the team have conceded 10 goals in the five games that the 25-year-old has not played in.

The Merseyside outfit failed to close the gap on league leaders Chelsea at the weekend, but they remain in contention being third in the standings, four points adrift of top spot.
