Brendan Rodgers: 'Luis Suarez could return to Liverpool'

Former Liverpool manager Brendan Rodgers says that Luis Suarez could return to Anfield in the future.

Former Liverpool manager Brendan Rodgers has suggested that Luis Suarez may one day make a sensational return to Anfield because he "misses" the supporters.

The controversial Uruguayan made a huge impact on Merseyside by scoring 82 goals in 133 games, but he ended his spell in 2014.

The forward signed for Spanish giants Barcelona in a £75m deal and has gone on to score 54 goals in 73 matches.

Rodgers worked with Suarez for three-and-a-half years before he was sacked as Liverpool manager and replaced with Jurgen Klopp in October 2015.

In an interview with talkSPORT, when asked if Suarez could return to Liverpool, Rodgers said: "You never know. I think he certainly misses the passion of the Liverpool supporters and he loved the competition of the Premier League.

"Luis is enjoying it out there at Barcelona, but I think if he did ever come back there would certainly be only one club he'd want to play for. He absolutely loved it at Liverpool, the supporters adored him and he gave absolutely everything.

"It's a joy to watch him score goals [at Barcelona] and work as hard as he does for one of the best teams in the world, but you never know."

Suarez signed for Liverpool from Ajax in January 2012 for a reported £22.8m fee.
