Liverpool to recall Danny Ward

Liverpool recall goalkeeper Danny Ward from his loan spell at Aberdeen amid speculation that he will be named understudy to Simon Mignolet.

Liverpool have recalled Danny Ward from his loan spell at Aberdeen six months early.

Reds manager Jurgen Klopp is expected to make the 22-year-old his new number two to Simon Mignolet in place of Adam Bogdan, who failed to impress in the 2-2 stalemate at League Two side Exeter City on Friday night.

Ward joined the Scottish Premiership title-challengers over the summer and has featured in all 21 league outings, keeping 12 clean sheets along the way as part of the division's second best defence.

Former Bolton Wanderers keeper Bogdan, meanwhile, has featured five times for Liverpool in all competitions this season, keeping one clean sheet and conceding seven.

Mignolet is expected to be between the sticks for Liverpool's crunch fixture with Arsenal at Anfield on Wednesday night, with Ward on the bench.
