Bayern Munich are determined to keep hold of Manchester City and Real Madrid-linked attacker Jamal Musiala, according to club president Herbert Hainer.

Bayern Munich are determined to keep hold of in-demand attacker Jamal Musiala, according to club president Herbert Hainer.

The 21-year-old is widely regarded as one of the brightest young talents in Europe and has already established himself as a key player at club level with Bayern and at international level with Germany.

After representing both Southampton and Chelsea during his youth career, Musiala returned to Germany with Bayern in 2019 and made his senior debut for the club as a 17-year-old in 2020.

Musiala has since made a total of 166 first-team appearances for Bayern across all competitions, scoring 44 goals and providing 31 assists, including 12 goals and eight assists in 38 games last season.

The versatile attacker, who can operate as an advanced midfielder or on either flank, was a standout performer for Germany at Euro 2024 - scoring three goals - while he also scored in Bayern's 3-2 win at Wolfsburg on the opening weekend of the new Bundesliga season.

Musiala wanted by Europe's elite

Musiala is a key member of Vincent Kompany's Bayern squad, but speculation over his long-term future has surfaced, with the attacker having less than two years remaining on his contract in Bavaria.

The 35-cap Germany international was surprisingly left off the shortlist for the Ballon d'Or award, but he remains on the radar of a number of top European clubs including Manchester City, who are allegedly 'determined' to sign him in 2025.

Man City's interest in Musiala comes at a time when Kevin De Bruyne's long-term future is uncertain, as the 33-year-old playmaker has now entered the final year of his contract at the Etihad Stadium.

The likes of Liverpool as well as La Liga duo Real Madrid and Barcelona have also been credited with an interest in Musiala, but Bayern are hoping to keep hold of one of their prized assets.

Bayern determined to keep Musiala

Bayern president Hainer has made his feelings clear on Musiala's future, stating that the German giants are keen for the youngster to stay and become a club legend like long-serving attacker Thomas Muller.

Speaking to journalist Mano Bonke for German news outlet Tz, Hainer said: "We want to try everything to keep him as long as possible.

"In my opinion, he could become the second Thomas Muller and play for FC Bayern for the next 20 years."

Musiala recently addressed his future at Bayern, revealing that he is "very happy" at the Allianz Arena but also admitting that "things can always change quickly in the world of football".
