Liverpool midfielder Philippe Coutinho admits that playing for Brazil in next year's World Cup will be a dream come true.

Liverpool midfielder Philippe Coutinho has expressed his desire to earn a place in the Brazil squad for next year's World Cup.

Coutinho's one and only cap for his country so far came against Iran in a friendly back in 2010, during which he played the first half of a 3-0 win.

However, the 20-year-old is hopeful that a regular starting spot at Liverpool will increase his chances of a recall in time for the World Cup, which will be held in his native Brazil.

"It was an honour for me when I was called up the first time. At the moment my aim is to play well for Liverpool and to learn and develop as much as I can. But I am sure if I play consistently well for Liverpool then the Brazil coach will notice me and I'll be called up for the national team," said Coutinho.

"Every player has a dream to play for their national team and especially in a World Cup. The fact the next World Cup is in Brazil makes that extra special. I will try to play as well as I can in order to make the squad. It's my dream to play for Brazil in the World Cup.

"There have been so many great names from my country's past. Players like Pele, Ronaldo, Ronaldinho and Romario. They are heroes of mine and they are players I am trying to follow in their footsteps. That is my aim but I'm still young and I need to learn a lot."

Coutinho has made five appearances for Liverpool since joining the club in January, scoring two goals and creating another two in that time.
