Mainz and Freiburg cancel out each other for a goalless draw in the Bundesliga despite the hosts ending the game with 10 men.

Mainz and Freiburg have played out a goalless draw at the Coface Arena in the Bundesliga.

Karim Guede set the tone for the clash after just four minutes when he smashed a shot just wide of the Mainz goal from the right side of the penalty box.

Minutes later Nicolai Muller forced Freiburg goalkeeper Oliver Baumann into making a good save, before turning Adam Szalai's cross just wide from inside the area.

Guede had another good chance on 26 minutes but was thwarted by Christian Wetklo between the Mainz posts. At the other end Baumann denied Nikolce Noveski.

Mainz and Freiburg continued to cancel out each other in the second half, as Daniel Caligiuri had two good chances for the visitors and Zdenek Pospech's late attempt for the hosts was saved by Baumann.

Mainz ended the game with 10 men as Shawn Parker was dismissed in the 89th minute for a second bookable offence.

The result leaves Mainz in seventh place with 27 points from 18 matches, while Freiburg are a place above them in sixth.
