Manchester City's owners, City Football Group (CFG), are reportedly close to completing the purchase of Brazilian second-tier club Bahia for around £104m.

Manchester City's owners, City Football Group (CFG), are reportedly close to completing the purchase of Brazilian second-tier club Bahia for around £104m.

CFG, who were founded five years after Sheik Mansour bought the Citizens in 2008, have been expanding their portfolio over the years and they currently own 10 different clubs across the world.

According to Brazilian news outlet UOL, CFG are about to complete the takeover of Bahia and the purchase of the club will be split into three instalments.

The first payment will be worth around £8m once the deal is finalised, plus an additional £24m by the end of this year, and the remaining £72m will be paid equally between 2023 and 2024.

The report adds that Bahia president Guilherme Bellintani has been holding talks with CFG in England this week, and he was in attendance at the Etihad Stadium to watch Manchester City's 1-0 win in the Champions League over Atletico Madrid on Tuesday.

Despite links with purchasing Brasileiro Serie A champions Atletico Mineiro, CFG intend to buy a Brazilian club who are not a 'traditional top 12 club' and they are now closing in on a deal with Bahia, who were relegated to Brasileiro Serie B last year.

Bahia would become the seventh non-European club to be bought by CFG, after New York City FC, Melbourne City, Yokohama F Marinos, Montevideo City Torque, Mumbai City and Sichuan Jiuniu.
