Sir Alex Ferguson hopeful of Wayne Rooney recovery

Sir Alex Ferguson says that Manchester United's medical team will determine on Sunday if Wayne Rooney will be fit to play against Galatasaray in midweek.

Manchester United manager Sir Alex Ferguson hopes that striker Wayne Rooney will be available for selection for their away game against Galatasaray on Tuesday.

Ferguson says that the 27-year-old's ankle injury will be assessed by the United medical team on Sunday to determined if he will be fit to play in their Champions League Group H clash in Turkey.

"He's had tonsillitis," Ferguson told MUTV on Saturday. "We hope he'll be in tomorrow [for training] - we'll see what he's like then.

"If he does [come in], hopefully we can get him ready for Tuesday."

United have already progressed to the last 16 of the competition as group winners with four wins out of four.
