Louis van Gaal confirms Angel Di Maria absence

Manchester United boss Louis van Gaal confirms that Angel di Maria will miss their clash against Stoke after he suffered a hamstring injury in the win over Hull.

Louis van Gaal has confirmed that Angel di Maria will miss Manchester United's Premier League match against Stoke City on Tuesday.

Di Maria suffered a hamstring injury in United's 3-0 win over Hull City on Saturday, which forced him off after only 13 minutes.

The injury had a minimal impact on the result, however, as Chris Smalling, Wayne Rooney and Robin Van Persie all scored in a routine win at Old Trafford.

Following the game, Van Gaal told BBC Sport: "He did not come off as a precaution - he is out of Tuesday's game against Stoke. It's too close.

"But we will have to wait and see how bad it is. We will know more tomorrow."

The result meant that United closed the gap at the top of the table to 10 points.
