Former Manchester United defender Rio Ferdinand has hailed Manchester City boss Pep Guardiola as 'the best coach of his generation'.
The former Barcelona boss has overseen a period of remarkable success at the Etihad, winning two Premier League titles, one FA Cup and three League Cups since arriving in England.
However, the Citizens have failed to replicate their title-winning form of the last two seasons, with Jurgen Klopp's Liverpool 25 points clear at the top of the table amid the coronavirus suspension.
As a result, questions have been asked as to whether the Liverpool boss has overtaken Guardiola in the managerial rankings, and while Ferdinand believes this to be the case, he has heavily praised the City manager for his contribution to football.
Speaking on Instagram, Ferdinand said: "At the moment Klopp just shades it but Pep is the innovator - the best we have seen in our generation. You think Johan Cruyff in the past - Pep today."
Guardiola won three consecutive Bundesliga titles with Bayern Munich before making the switch to the Premier League.
