Former Manchester United defender Rio Ferdinand urges Liverpool to sign RB Leipzig forward Timo Werner.

Former Manchester United defender Rio Ferdinand believes that Liverpool should go all out to sign RB Leipzig striker Timo Werner.

The 24-year-old has been widely linked with a move to England's top flight recently, having scored 21 goals in 25 Bundesliga appearances this term.

Speaking on Instagram, Ferdinand said: "If I'm Liverpool I take him 100%. If one of their front three gets injured for a sustained amount of time they do not have a replacement.

"Mohamed Salah may not stay that much longer, Sadio Mane might get bought too, and there are also enough games in a season for Werner to push his way in [to the starting lineup].

"I watched him against Tottenham Hotspur in the Champions League live and thought 'Wow, this kid has got something'. His movement, he looks mature, he's quick, and he should have scored another goal in the game.

"I like the way he moves, he is not pinned down to one position. When I look at strikers I think 'would I enjoy playing against him?' He is elusive in his movement and he is very direct."

Werner's current deal with Julian Nagelsmann's side will expire in 2023.
