Ray Parlour: 'Morgan Schneiderlin would have been very good signing for Arsenal'

Arsenal legend Ray Parlour admits that the club may have missed out on a very good signing in the shape of Morgan Schneiderlin after he completed his move to Manchester United.

Arsenal legend Ray Parlour has suggested that the club should have acted quicker to sign Morgan Schneiderlin before he completed a move to rivals Manchester United.

Schneiderlin's name has long been linked with the Gunners, but Arsene Wenger was unable to secure his man as the French international signed off on a £24m move to Old Trafford earlier this week.

"Arsenal need a central midfielder who's going to be sitting in front of the back four," Parlour told The Sport Review.

"Schneiderlin would have been good very good. Are there players in that sort of mould out there that Arsene Wenger can bring in to do that job? Or will he look at Santi Cazorla like he did at Manchester City away last season... can Jack Wilshere do that job?"

Wenger's charges begin their new Premier League campaign at home to West Ham United on August 9.
