Elie Baup happy with Marseille youth

Elie Baup praises Marseille's youngsters despite losing to Arsenal on Tuesday in the Champions League.

Elie Baup believes that Marseille's future is in good hands despite losing their fifth consecutive game in the Champions League on Tuesday.

Les Phoceens were beaten 2-0 at Arsenal last night, with the likes of Mario Lemina (20), Jordan Ayew (22), Giannelli Imbula (21) and Florian Thauvin (20) all featuring for the French outfit.

"We know that the demands at this level are very high," Baup said in his press conference. "Of course, when you give yourself a problem by conceding a goal in the first minute, the first half becomes very difficult. In the second half we showed a little more imagination in our play, but over the two games they were much better than us.

"There are a lot of young players in our side and they were only playing for the first or second time in this competition. So you have to analyse this and show them how they can improve. There are some good players in our team, but some are 18 or 19, so they have to learn. That said, some of our players showed that we can count on them.

"When you come up against a team with the ability that Arsenal possess you need to roll up your sleeves and have a good goalkeeper, and that was the case. In the first game we played a good hour against Arsenal, but tonight we were a bit better in the second half than in the first."

Marseille face Borussia Dortmund in their final game of the tournament in two weeks' time.
