Napoli fight back to draw with Empoli

Napoli recover from two goals down to salvage a 2-2 draw at home to Empoli in Serie A.

Napoli have fought back from two goals down to earn a 2-2 draw at home to Empoli in Serie A.

The visitors took the lead on 19 minutes when Simone Verdi found space in the box before calmly slotting the ball into the far corner.

Empoli doubled their advantage eight minutes into the second half as Daniele Rugani showed good composure inside the penalty area to prod the ball in, after the hosts had failed to clear their lines.

However, Napoli's comeback started on 67 minutes when Duvan Zapata headed the ball home powerfully from a corner.

Rafael Benitez's side then sealed a share of the spoils just five minutes later thanks to Jonathan de Guzman's neat finish, following a Christian Maggio cross from the right.

The chances continued to arrive during a frantic finale, but Jose Callejon and Gonzalo Higuain both wasted opportunities for Napoli before Massimo Maccarone fired over at the other end.
