Steven Taylor out for rest of season

Newcastle United centre-back Steven Taylor is ruled out for the rest of the season with a ruptured Achilles.

Newcastle United defender Steven Taylor has been ruled out for the rest of the season with a serious Achilles injury.

The experienced centre-back ruptured his Achilles in Thursday's 3-3 draw against Burnley, and the Magpies' worst fears have now been realised.

"Gutted to say I'm going to be out for the season. I ruptured my Achilles in the last game," Taylor posted on Twitter.

"Thankfully it wasn't the one I did a few years ago. I'll have an operation on it on Wednesday but won't make it back now for the rest of this season.

"I know what to do in the rehab from last time and will come back fitter and stronger than before. Thanks to everyone who sent nice messages on here, appreciate the support. Tayls."

Taylor started the season out of favour at St James' Park, but worked his way back into the team in recent months.
