Luuk de Jong: 'I'm motivated to score goals'

Luuk de Jong vows to repay Newcastle United's faith in him by scoring goals for the club in the Premier League.

Newcastle United loanee Luuk de Jong has insisted that he is 'motivated and ready to score goals' for the Magpies.

The 23-year-old, who has joined the Premier league outfit on loan from Borussia Monchengladbach for the remainder of the season, has so far struggled to make an impact in England.

Despite this, the Netherlands international has vowed to repay manager Alan Pardew's faith in his ability.

"It's a club that really wants me," De Jong is quoted as saying by Chronicle Live. "It's a great club in England and the Premier League is a massive competition. I'm already enjoying my time here. I have a good feeling about it. Newcastle have been after me for a few years now, from when I was at FC Twente, and that gives me a good feeling.

"I'm really happy to get this opportunity to play. I came to the stadium to watch a game against Arsenal six years ago when I was a teenager. I was really impressed but it then, both the stadium and the atmosphere. It's a great place to be.

"I'm really motivated. The first half of the season hasn't been nice for me because I didn't play much. I just want to show my talent, score goals and be successful again. That's why I'm here. My goalscoring record in Holland was very good and hopefully I can show that here."

Newcastle are currently ninth in the Premier League table.
