Paco Jemez in frame for Newcastle United job?

Newcastle United are interested in appointing Rayo Vallecano's Paco Jemez as head coach, according to a report.

Newcastle United are reportedly interested in appointing Paco Jemez as head coach this summer.

The 45-year-old has led unfashionable Rayo Vallecano to their best ever spell in La Liga during his three years in charge, which included an eighth-place finish in 2013.

It is expected that Newcastle will dispense with current head coach John Carver when his deal runs out at the end of the season, following just two wins from 16 games in charge.

The Magpies have reportedly identified Derby County head coach Steve McClaren as their first choice to succeed Carver, but they are said to be keeping their options open before deciding on their next boss.

Jemez is out of contract at Rayo this summer, meaning that he could move without the need for compensation.

Newcastle are impressed with the Spaniard's achievements at Rayo and have been alerted of his availability, according to the Daily Star.

The North-East outfit are currently 14th in the Premier League with four games remaining.
