Steven Taylor hails Newcastle United spirit after "difficult" period

Newcastle defender Steven Taylor hails his teammates' resilience after coming from behind to beat Spurs to bookend what was a "difficult" period for the club recently.

Steven Taylor has hailed the fighting spirit of his Newcastle United teammates after coming from behind to beat Tottenham Hotspur 2-1 to end a "difficult" period.

Goals from Ayoze Perez and Sammy Ameobi helped the Magpies cancel out Emmanuel Adebayor's opener at White Hart Lane on Sunday to earn their second successive victory.

Alan Pardew's side beat Leicester City last weekend to end a run of seven Premier League outings without a win, resulting in fans protesting for the dismissal of the 53-year-old coach.

"It has been difficult," the centre-back admitted to Sky Sports News.

"We have taken a lot of criticism in the past. [But] I think, the last few weeks, we have delivered.

"The boys came out fighting. One-nil behind, it was a difficult one for us. But we stuck in it well."

The victory over Spurs lifted Newcastle out of the drop zone and up to 14th in the Premier League table.
