Newcastle United's Steve McClaren: 'I will not recall Adam Armstrong'

Newcastle United head coach Steve McClaren says that he will not recall in-form striker Adam Armstrong from his loan at Coventry City, despite the team's struggles.

Newcastle United head coach Steve McClaren has insisted that he will not recall in-form striker Adam Armstrong from his loan at Coventry City, despite the team's poor run.

The youngster has netted eight goals in nine matches since joining the Sky Blues until January on loan, with Coventry manager Tony Mowbray fearing that Newcastle would want him back after failing to win so far in the Premier League.

However, McClaren has stated that he is happy to watch the 18-year-old progress in League One for the time being.

When asked if he would recall Armstrong, the Newcastle boss told The Chronicle: "No, no, not yet. He's better getting football and he's at a good place to do that.

"I have spoken to Tony Mowbray and he does like him. He set off like a house on fire after going there. He is in good hands at Coventry with Tony.

"I am delighted he's got recognised for his performances."

Newcastle host Norwich City on Saturday.
