Nice overcome nine-man Rennes

Rennes lose two players to red cards as they slip to a 1-0 defeat away at Nice.

A penalty from Dario Cvitanich was enough for Nice to claim all three points from their home encounter with Rennes this evening.

Following an opening 45 minutes of very few incidents, the first major talking point of the encounter arrived with 53 minutes on the clock when Jean-Armel Kana-Biyik was dismissed for his second bookable offence.

Then, in the 65th minute Rennes lost their second player. Eric Bautheac was hauled down inside the area by Yassine Jebbour, who was shown a straight red card for his actions.

Croatian frontman Cvitanich then stepped up to convert the resultant penalty to put the home team in front.

Despite their numerical disadvantage, Rennes went in search of an equaliser in the closing stages, but they were unable to find a route back into the encounter.

The win has moved Nice up to seventh in the Ligue 1 table.
