Cristiano Ronaldo had an early goal ruled out for the hosts before Alvaro Morata fired into the bottom corner with three minutes played to put them ahead.

Their lead was doubled in the 12th minute as Sergio Ramos powered in a header from Mesut Ozil's free kick.

However, Ramos was sent off midway through the half when he picked up two yellow cards within a minute.

His first was for a mistimed challenge before the second came with a deliberate handball.

Ronaldo had the chance to extend Madrid's advantage before the break, only to put his effort wide of the post having rounded the goalkeeper.
