How Tottenham Hotspur could line up against Burnley

Sports Mole looks at how Tottenham Hotspur could line up for Saturday's Premier League meeting with Burnley.

Tottenham Hotspur take on Burnley in the Premier League on Saturday looking to recover from a 2-1 loss to Manchester United at Old Trafford.

Jose Mourinho will be determined to bounce back after suffering his opening defeat as Spurs manager against his former club.

Burnley, meanwhile, must pick themselves up after being outclassed 4-1 by Manchester City on Tuesday.

Here, Sports Mole looks at how Spurs could line up for this fixture.

Doubtful: None

Serge Aurier picked up some criticism for his performance at Old Trafford, often giving the ball away sloppily, but Mourinho, since arriving, has placed important emphasis on the player.

While the left-back plays closer to the defence, Aurier pulls out wide as something of a second winger, encouraging a more attacking shape when the ball travels through midfield.

At the heart of defence will be Toby Alderweireld and Davinson Sanchez, who appear to be Mourinho's first-choice pairing, starting together in all four of the Portuguese's games in the dugout so far.

The 56-year-old has employed Jan Vertonghen in left-back role for the past two games, with the Belgian complementing Aurier's attacking mindset by staying tight, but you get the impression that the Spurs boss, like he did against Olympiacos, may opt for the more mobile Danny Rose.

Some may have thought that Harry Winks, an agile and nimble player of the ball, may not suit Mourinho's more disciplined style.

However, the Englishman has so far been a fixture under the new regime alongside Moussa Sissoko, adding tempo and structure to the midfield – although this was not as much on show at Old Trafford.

Further forward, Mourinho has found a player he seems to truly love in Dele Alli, whose form was indifferent under Mauricio Pochettino this season but now, as seen with his stunning goal against United, seems to have rediscovered his groove.

In the interest of rotation, Mourinho is likely to dispense with Lucas Moura, who does not play every game, in favour of Real Betis loanee Giovani Lo Celso, who is yet to fully find his feet in the Premier League.

Rounding off the attack will be the duo of Son Heung-min and Harry Kane – two players who normally work so well together but seemed to struggle to find the same wavelength at the Theatre of Dreams.
