Tottenham Hotspur's Eric Dier is reportedly seeking clarification of his position at the club, holding talks with Daniel Levy after failing to feature so far this term.

Tottenham Hotspur defender Eric Dier has reportedly held talks with chairman Daniel Levy regarding his future at the club.

The 29-year-old has not been included in any of Ange Postecoglou's five matchday squads so far this season, despite being a regular figure for Spurs over the past decade.

Dier did not even make the bench when the former Celtic boss rotated heavily for the EFL Cup defeat at Fulham in late August, with the Australian starting Micky van de Ven alongside Davidson Sanchez.

The centre-back has appeared 361 times for the Lilywhites since making his first-team debut in August 2014, scoring 13 goals for the club over a nine-year period.

According to The Telegraph, Dier has recently held crunch talks with Spurs chairman Daniel Levy regarding his future in North London, with the player yet to feature in a competitive fixture for the new head coach.

The report claims that the defender aimed to seek clarification on his current standing at the club following Postecoglou's decision to attempt a transformation of the team's fortunes without the England international.

Dier has less than a year left on his current deal at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium, and it is understood that Spurs are yet to offer the 29-year-old fresh terms in the capital.

It was reported in the closing stages of the summer transfer window that Postecoglou's men had rejected a loan offer for the centre-back from recently-promoted Burnley.

Vincent Kompany's side are back at the top table of English football after cantering to the Championship crown in 2022-23, however the Clarets' desire to recruit the defender on a short-term deal did not align with Spurs' wishes to offload the player permanently.

It is also understood that Bundesliga champions Bayern Munich were offered the chance to sign Dier this summer, as the Bavarian giants looked to reinforce their defensive ranks following the departure of Benjamin Pavard to Inter Milan.

With Sanchez and Tanguy Ndombele moving to Galatasary recently, Dier could be handed a place on Tottenham's bench by Postecoglou after the international break to provide competition for Van de Ven and Christian Romero.

The 49-time international started 31 Premier League matches for the Lilywhites in a 2022-23 campaign which ended in an eighth-placed finish, with the defender forming part of the club's senior leadership group alongside the likes of Harry Kane and Hugo Lloris.

Tottenham will be looking to continue their unbeaten start in the Premier League when they welcome top-flight newcomers Sheffield United to North London after the international break.
