Former Tranmere Rovers striker Adam McGurk hopes to gain a long-term contract with Birmingham City.

Former Tranmere Rovers striker Adam McGurk has revealed that he is hopeful of gaining a long-term contract with Birmingham City.

The 24-year-old, who left Tranmere at the end of last season, has been on trial with the Championship club in recent weeks.

The Northern Irishman suffered a collapsed lung in an injury-stricken campaign last season, but he is confident that he has the ability to operate at a higher level.

"I'd like to think that I played well for Tranmere. The majority of the last season we were probably the best team in League One, until the final two months," he told the Birmingham Mail.

"My lung collapsing, towards the end of the season, that didn't help me, obviously. But I felt I did well and now I want to test myself and step up to the next stage.

"I think I can play anywhere across the frontline. Tranmere, the last two seasons, I've played wide. I came through my youth football playing centre-forward."

McGurk joined Tranmere from Hednesford Town in 2010.
