Jim Boyce wants winter World Cup backing

Jim Boyce hopes that the Premier League can back FIFA's proposal to move the World Cup in 2022 to the winter.

FIFA vice-president Jim Boyce has urged the Premier League to offer their backing to move the 2022 World Cup in Qatar to the winter.

The Premier League has as yet failed to support the move to the winter, but Boyce said that their doing so would represent the "interests of football".

"I would appeal to the Premier League that in the interests of football, they work with FIFA and all the other European associations to try and ensure that this World Cup is played at the right time," Sky Sports News quotes Boyce as saying.

"I'm glad to see that there does now appear to be a willingness to sit down and talk about it. I think perhaps FIFA were caught in a bit of a trap. They found out that this was going to be in severe heat. Hindsight is a wonderful thing."

Qatar in the summer regularly exceeds 50 degrees.
