Brian McDermott bemoans "heart-breaking" Leeds Rhinos defeat

Leeds Rhinos head coach Brian McDermott admits that it was "heart-breaking" to lose to Wakefield Trinity Wildcats after conceding a late try.

Brian McDermott has described Leeds Rhinos' defeat to Wakefield Trinity Wildcats in the Super League last night as "heart-breaking".

A late try from Richard Owen sealed a 16-14 win for the home side, preventing Leeds from returning to the top of the table.

The head coach told Sky Sports News: "It's disappointing the way we lost. To have it snatched away from us at the death there, without wanting to sound dramatic, was heart-breaking.

"We could smell the win but it just got taken away right at the end. It was an even contest throughout, Wakefield defended really and I thought we defended well at times too.

"This is all part of the journey. We have to highlight the areas where some of the young fellas should have been stood or the balls they should have caught. If we are going to progress and become a better team then we have to go through these moments."

The defeat leaves the Rhinos a point behind league leaders St Helens.
