Ben Westwood: 'Warrington Wolves using past pain to overcome St Helens'

Ben Westwood describes Warrington Wolves' decade-long hoodoo against St Helens as being "madness" ahead of their latest meeting this evening.

Ben Westwood is hoping that recent history repeats itself this evening when Warrington Wolves look to cut down St Helens' lead at the top of the Super League table.

Following a decade of Saints dominance in this fixture, the tides have turned in recent times with Wolves coming out on top more times than not.

Warrington currently find themselves two points behind their opponents in the league table, and Westwood is only too aware of the history of this fixture.

"It was madness because I didn't beat Saints for my first 10 years at the club," the Daily Star quotes him as saying. "One time they scored three tries in the last five minutes to beat us and they got us numerous times with drop-goal winners.

"That's changed of late and we've managed to win the last seven away against them, including two at Magic Weekend. But we want to keep doing to them at our place what they used to do to us at ours.

"When I retire I'll remember all those times Saints beat us. But I also want to make sure there are lots of wins to remember."

A hefty win at Langtree Park will see the visitors climb to the top of the table.
