Schalke have signed winger Ibrahim Afellay on a season-loan deal from Barcelona.
The Netherlands international was deemed surplus to requirements at the Nou Camp and was expected to leave the Catalan giants during the summer transfer window.
Afellay officially signed the papers with Schalke on Friday after passing his medical.
Afellay, 26, joined Barcelona from PSV in January 2011 but was out of action for most of the 2011-12 season with a knee injury.
