Aleksandar Tonev to wait on racism ban appeal after hearing is adjourned

Celtic winger Aleksandar Tonev will find out if his appeal against a seven-match suspension on a racism charge will be successful "in the next two weeks".

Celtic winger Aleksandar Tonev has been told that he will find out if his appeal against a seven-match suspension on a racism charge will be successful "in the next two weeks" as the meeting was adjourned.

The 24-year-old, who is currently on loan at the Old Firm club from Aston Villa, was punished by the Scottish Football Association for allegedly abusing Aberdeen defender Shay Logan racially during a Scottish Premiership match in September.

An appellate tribunal gathered at Hampden on Thursday evening to hear submissions on Tonev's behalf before the adjournment, with a statement subsequently promising a ruling "within the next two weeks".

Celtic manager Ronny Deila told reporters hours before the tribunal: "We have to be sure about the things that have actually been said.

"If not, then it's a very hard penalty to get when we don't know what is right or wrong. It could be a misunderstanding."

Tonev is free to continue playing until a verdict is reached.
