Top 10 Jose Mourinho quotes

With Jose Mourinho nearing a return to Chelsea, Sports Mole looks back over some of the Portuguese manager's best quotes.

Jose Mourinho confirmed one of football's worst kept secrets last night - he is returning for a second stint as manager of Chelsea.

During his first spell between 2004 and 2007, the 50-year-old caused much amusement with his words during interviews and press conferences.

With his career at Stamford Bridge about to resume, Sports Mole has looked back over some of Mourinho's best quotes during his management career to date.

"Please don't call me arrogant, but I'm European champion and I think I'm a special one."

Mourinho introduces himself to the English media in his first very press conference as manager of Chelsea.

"As we say in Portugal, they brought the bus and they left the bus in front of the goal. I would have been frustrated if I had been a supporter who paid £50 to watch this game because Spurs came to defend."

The Portuguese coach analyses his side's 0-0 draw with London rivals Tottenham Hotspur at Stamford Bridge.

"My history as a manager cannot be compared with Frank Rijkaard's history. He has zero trophies and I have a lot of them."

The Blues had a number of battles with Barcelona during Mourinho's first stint at the Bridge. It would be fair to say that him and Barca coach Rijkaard were not the best of friends.

"For me, pressure is bird flu. I'm feeling a lot of pressure with the problem in Scotland. It's not fun and I'm more scared of it than football."

Mourinho humours the media when asked about if he is feeling the pressure of the 2006 title race.

"I studied Italian five hours a day for many months to ensure I could communicate with the players, media and fans. Ranieri had been in England for five years and still struggled to say 'good morning' and 'good afternoon.' He has won a Super Cup, a small cup. He has never won a major trophy. Maybe he needs to change his mindset but he is too old to do it."

Mourinho reacts to criticism from former Chelsea manager Claudio Ranieri in 2008.

"It was a strange game. I think we all understand that it was no coincidence that he showed the red card to Sneijder. I have realised that they are not going to allow us to wrap this title up. But we were perfect. We would have won this game even with seven men. Maybe with six we would have struggled, but we would have won with seven."

Despite have Wesley Sneijder red carded, Mourinho's Inter Milan beat city rivals AC Milan 2-0 in the San Siro in 2010. Even though his side won, Mourinho couldn't resist taking a dig at the authorities.

"The way they are, tomorrow we will probably read I am to blame for the volcano. Maybe I have a friend in the volcano and I am responsible for that."

The ash cloud from the volcano in Iceland forces Barcelona to travel to Milan for a Champions League tie by road.

"I would rather play with 10 men than wait for a player who is late for the bus."

Mourinho warns his Real Madrid players about their time-keeping.

"If they made a film of my life, I think they should get George Clooney to play me. He's a fantastic actor and my wife thinks he would be ideal."

Mrs Mourinho is obviously a fan of the American actor, film director, producer, and screenwriter George Clooney.

"What I'm about to say is not a criticism, I'm just stating a fact: there were no ball-boys in the second half, which is something typical of small teams in difficulty. We intended to play like men and not fall on the ground at the slightest touch."

The 'Special One' brands old adversary Barcelona a "small team" after the Spanish Super Cup final.
