Leyton Orient begin campaign with defeat at home to Chesterfield

Leyton Orient begin their League One campaign with a defeat, as Chesterfield record a 2-1 win at Brisbane Road.

Leyton Orient have begun their League One campaign with a 2-1 defeat to Chesterfield at Brisbane Road.

The Spireites broke the deadlock in the seventh minute, with Romuald Boco scoring on his debut after pouncing on a deflected Jimmy Ryan shot.

The home side subsequently pushed forward in a bid to try and equalise, but the Derbyshire outfit nearly doubled their lead, with Eoin Doyle striking the near post on the quarter-hour mark.

Midway through the first half, Chesterfield goalkeeper Tommy Lee was responsible for some good play as he thwarted David Mooney and Kevin Lisbie.

The game provided some exciting, open football as both sides continued to push for goals, with Lisbie failing to connect from just four yards near the end of the first half.

In the 54th minute, Chesterfield had a penalty claim as Gary Roberts, on the edge of the box, played a ball towards Ritchie Humphreys, which appeared to hit an Orient arm. The referee, however, waved away the claims.

Worse was to come for the home side as Doyle lobbed the opposition keeper to double Chesterfield's lead towards the latter stages of the match.

Nevertheless, Darius Henderson's tap-in in the final ten minutes of the game provided a nervy finale for the travelling Spireites fans, who watched their side hang on to their one-goal advantage.
