Gillingham appoint Justin Edinburgh as manager

Gillingham unveil Justin Edinburgh as the club's new manager after agreeing compensation with Newport County.

Gillingham have appointed Justin Edinburgh as their new manager after the Kent side agreed a compensation package with Newport County.

Edinburgh led the Welsh club to promotion from the Conference in 2013 and took County to sixth in the League Two table before moving to the Priestfield Stadium.

However, the 45-year-old former Tottenham Hotspur defender is relishing the chance to try his hand in League One.

He told a press conference: "I'm looking forward to the task at hand, it's a step up for me and after watching the squad there is development here and the fan base."

The Gills have been without a permanent boss since the sacking of Peter Taylor on New Year's Eve, with a four-man team of Andy Hessenthaler, Steve Lovell, Darren Hare and Mark Patterson looking after first-team affairs since.
