Louis van Gaal: 'Anthony Martial best young talent around'

Louis van Gaal believes that new recruit Anthony Martial has the potential to "become a top player" during his time at Manchester United.

Manchester United boss Louis van Gaal has described summer signing Anthony Martial as the "best talent for his age" in world football.

The 19-year-old completed a surprise move to Old Trafford earlier this month in a deal that is thought to be worth up to £58.8m.

Van Gaal has already revealed that the former Monaco man was signed with the future in mind, citing the improved quality of the Premier League behind his reasoning for slowly integrating Martial into the first-team fold.

"Anthony is the best talent for his age, he has all the attributes and potential to become a top player, as do all our young players," the Dutchman said in his programme notes ahead of today's meeting with Liverpool.

"He will need time to adapt to his new environment and also to the fast rhythm of the Premier League, which is never easy for young players, especially those from a different country.

"To hit the ground running they need time to develop and time to become comfortable with their new surroundings. We will work closely with Anthony, as we are doing with Luke Shaw, Memphis [Depay], Paddy McNair, Jesse Lingard, Sam Johnstone and Andreas Pereira."

Martial, who now has two senior France caps to his name, could be involved in United's squad for the visit of Liverpool.
