Manchester United are allegedly among the clubs who hold an interest in signing Blackburn Rovers youngster Adam Wharton.

Manchester United have reportedly identified Blackburn Rovers youngster Adam Wharton as a potential transfer target.

United have just enjoyed a productive summer window, despite the fact that some of their additions were made during the closing hours of business.

Head coach Erik ten Hag spent the entire period looking to find a suitable fresh face for his midfield and he eventually secured a deal for Fiorentina's Sofyan Amrabat.

The Morocco international ultimately acted as a direct alternative to Fred, and Ten Hag has since promoted Hannibal Mejbri to his senior ranks to bolster his options.

With Hannibal impressing versus Burnley at the weekend and Kobbie Mainoo making an impact during pre-season, United arguably already have the youthful options that they were craving in the engine room.

Nevertheless, according to TEAMtalk, the Red Devils are monitoring the development of Wharton ahead of a possible bid in the future.

The 19-year-old has become an important member of the Blackburn XI, already making seven starts and one substitute outing in the Championship this season.

That has followed the 18 second-tier matches that he featured in during 2022-23 and Rovers have high hopes for a player who has also represented England at Under-19 international.

With a contract at Ewood Park until 2027, Wharton is tied to the North West outfit in the long term, yet the club's alleged finances may dictate that a sale materialises at some point.

Journalist Alan Nixon has added in a separate report that Everton are also admirers of Wharton and make look to agree a deal in 2024.

The Toffees are on the brink of being taken over by 777 Partners, although the level of investment that will be able to be put into the team in the short term is unclear.

Everton have struggled to meet FFP criteria recent times and they may have to consider recouping further funds themselves if they are to pursue players such as Wharton.

As it stands, Wharton is said to possess a valuation of £10m, something which may change if he continues to impress in the Championship.
