Gerard Pique: 'I'd reject Manchester City because I love Manchester United'

Barcelona star Gerard Pique says that he would not join Pep Guardiola at Manchester City because of his "love" for Manchester United.

Barcelona star Gerard Pique has revealed that he would turn down a move to Manchester City because of his "love" for Manchester United.

The 28-year-old spent four years at Old Trafford before joining the Catalan giants and playing under Pep Guardiola, who will take over at City in the summer.

Numerous players who have worked with Guardiola at Barcelona and his current club Bayern Munich have been linked with the Premier League club, but Pique has ruled out following his former manager to City.

"My love for Manchester United is too great for me to sign for City, even though Pep is a great coach," the Spanish defender said on Periscope.

Despite not considering a switch to Manchester, Pique, who scored the winner in last night's 2-1 victory over Sevilla, has admitted that he would like to experience a different league.

"I'm very happy in Barcelona," said Pique. "United are my second club, but my future is at Barca. I'm very proud to play at Barcelona. I think it's the best club in the world.

"I would like to try a different league when I've got a few years to go before retiring. I don't know if it will be Colombia, I'd like that for [my partner] Shakira, but nobody can predict the future."

Pique has been a Barcelona player for the last seven years.
