Newcastle United have reportedly accepted defeat in their attempt to sign Lyon striker Bafetimbi Gomis.
The Magpies initially failed to agree personal terms with the Frenchman, but a transfer appeared to be back on track when they recently re-opened talks with the player.
However, it appears that following their two failed attempts, Newcastle understand that they will not be welcoming Gomis to St James' Park before the close of the window this evening, according to BBC Sport.
Newcastle manager Alan Pardew claimed that he would like to strengthen his attacking options following the acquisition of Loic Remy on a loan deal from Queens Park Rangers.
