Arjen Robben: 'Kevin De Bruyne should snub Manchester City, stay in Germany'

Arjen Robben urges Kevin De Bruyne to stay at Wolfsburg amid speculation linking him with Manchester City, claiming that the Bundesliga would mourn such a loss.

Bayern Munich winger Arjen Robben has encouraged in-demand Wolfsburg midfielder Kevin De Bruyne to snub a move to Manchester City.

Speculation is rife that the Sky Blues are preparing a £50m swoop for the 24-year-old playmaker, who has also attracted interest from Real Madrid and Barcelona.

However, Robben, who helped Bayern win the Bundesliga by 10 points last term, admits that such a loss for Wolfsburg - who finished second - would undoubtedly make Germany's top-flight less competitive.

"I want the good players of other clubs to stay in the Bundesliga," he told Algemeen Dagblad.

"You could think: Mats Hummels could move, Ilkay Gundogan could move or Marco Reus could move from [Borussia] Dortmund, or Kevin De Bruyne could go from Wolfsburg, and that would be fine, because the competition gets weakened. But I want as much resistance as possible and I want the competition to be as attractive as possible.

"Since I've been at Bayern, I have seen the Bundesliga grow. The football is alive here. I don't want it to become lesser."

De Bruyne is contracted to Wolfsburg until 2019.
