Mikel Arteta praises Arsenal's "high standards" in West Ham United win

Mikel Arteta was full of praise for his Arsenal side after witnessing their 2-0 victory over West Ham United on Wednesday evening.

Mikel Arteta has claimed that Arsenal produced "really high standards" during their 2-0 victory over West Ham United on Wednesday night.

After a goalless first half, Gabriel Martinelli and Emile Smith Rowe netted either side of a missed Alexandre Lacazette penalty to secure all three points for the Gunners.

Despite the continued absence of Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang, Arsenal were good value for their win, and Arteta is excited about the development of his team.

Speaking to Match Of The Day, the Spaniard said: "We played really high standards, with a lot of passion, energy and quality. We played the game we wanted to play against a team that is really complicated to control.

"They have a lot of solutions in attack and are really hard to break. Overall, the performance was merited to win the game. When we found the solutions to attack them we had more control.

"Our counter-press was excellent today. We needed a bit more quality in the final third to finish more actions. We started the second half really good, really getting at them and being penetrative. We scored an excellent goal and had more chances. We have lots of solutions that can help us in games depending on what we have to do."

Arsenal now sit in fourth position in the Premier League standings, albeit with some of the teams below them having games in hand.
