Arsenal 'hold talks with Youri Tielemans'

Arsenal allegedly hold discussions with Leicester City midfielder Youri Tielemans ahead of a potential transfer in the summer.

Arsenal have reportedly stepped up their efforts to sign Leicester City midfielder Youri Tielemans during the summer transfer window.

The Gunners are currently on track to secure a surprise Premier League title triumph, the club sitting eight points clear of Manchester City albeit having played a game more than the defending champions.

However, things have not gone seamlessly for Mikel Arteta in the middle of the pitch, with an injury to Mohamed Elneny reducing his options.

Jorginho was signed from Chelsea on the final day of the January window, the Italy international already proving to be a key addition for the ongoing scenario.

That said, it has been widely claimed that Arsenal will be in the market for another player who can be deployed in the engine room ahead of 2023-24.

According to TEAMtalk, Arsenal are ready to step up their long-standing interest in winning the race to acquire the services of Tielemans.

There has been speculation regarding the Belgium international's future at the King Power Stadium ever since he entered the final two years of his contract in 2021.

Leicester had hoped to tie the playmaker down to a longer-term deal, but the Foxes have dropped off considerably since Tielemans scored their winning goal versus Chelsea in the 2021 FA Cup final.

As a result, Brendan Rodgers left his role in the dugout two days ago, a consequence of Leicester sitting in the Premier League relegation zone with 10 games remaining.

Tielemans has barely featured for Leicester over the past two months due to an ankle injury, and Rodgers revealed last week that the 25-year-old faced being absent until the closing weeks of the season.

During that period, Arsenal have seemingly taken the opportunity to hold talks with the player's representatives in a bid to fend off a wide array of rivals.

Nevertheless, the report claims that Tielemans's wage demands are currently deemed too high, with Arsenal already expressing a reluctance to commit to the requested outlay.

Newcastle United allegedly possess the same stance as their Premier League counterparts at a time when they will need to be meticulous in their effort to meet FFP criteria.
