Aston Villa boss Tim Sherwood confident of Christian Benteke stay

Aston Villa boss Tim Sherwood backs striker Christian Benteke to remain at the club this summer.

Aston Villa boss Tim Sherwood has claimed that he expects striker Christian Benteke to stay at the club this summer.

The Belgian international has scored 15 goals so far this season, leading to renewed speculation over his future.

Liverpool and Manchester United are among the clubs that are thought to be keen on the 24-year-old.

However, Sherwood is confident that Benteke will remain at Villa Park beyond the end of the season.

"Christian is only a young man but he's very mature in the way he behaves," he is quoted as saying by Sky Sports News. "I think he's handled the situation well. I have no reason to believe he wants to seek employment elsewhere.

"He knows there are big games coming up in Sunday and the [FA Cup] final and I think he wants to be at this football club. I'm convinced of that."

Aston Villa wrap up their Premier League campaign on Sunday when they host Burnley.
