Match Analysis: Levante 0-4 Barcelona

Sports Mole dissects the action as Barcelona record a 4-0 win over Levante on Sunday.

Barcelona have moved 11 points clear of Real Madrid at the summit of La Liga after thumping Levante 4-0 on Sunday.

The Catalan outfit dominated the opening half, but it took until the 47th minute for Lionel Messi to open the scoring.

The Argentine had his second moments later, while Andres Iniesta and Cesc Fabregas made it three and then four during a spectacular feast of football.

Here, Sports Mole dissects the 90 minutes of action between the two La Liga rivals.

Was the result fair?

The second period was one of the most one-sided 45 minutes of football that I have ever seen. Barcelona did dominate the first period, but failed to create any real chances of note. That changed after the interval as Levante's defence collapsed and it could have been a cricket score had Barcelona kept the same tempo throughout.

Levante's performance

5/10. Levante would have been very pleased with their opening half of football against the La Liga leaders. They had more shots on goal and created more chances, but unfortunately could not make the breakthrough. The second half was a complete non-affair, however, as they were completely devoid of possession.

Barcelona's performance

8/10. Levante had been one of the best defensive units in La Liga this season. It appeared that Barcelona would struggle to open the scoring after the first half, but they upped the tempo during 16 second-half minutes to secure the points. When they play like this there is not a side that can get anywhere near them.

Sports Mole's man of the match

Andres Iniesta: The Spanish midfielder destroyed Levante in the second half as he set up three goals and scored a sensational effort of his own. He is just a joy to watch.

Biggest gaffe of the match

Levante's defenders just collapsed in the second period after Barcelona scored the opener. It is almost as if they lost their belief to compete and were made to pay.

Referee performance

Pedro Perez had a comfortable 90 minutes of action this evening. The Spaniard just stood back and watched as Barcelona destroyed Levante in the second period.

What next?

Levante: Levante are in Copa del Rey action against Melilla on Wednesday before travelling to Celta Vigo in the league next Sunday.

Barcelona: The Catalan outfit are also in Copa del Rey action this week against Deportivo Alaves. They then face Athletic Bilbao at the Nou Camp next Saturday.
