Steve Cotterill: 'Bristol City deserved to beat Cardiff City'

Bristol City manager Steve Cotterill claims that his side did enough to deserve victory in Monday night's Severnside derby against Cardiff City.

Bristol City manager Steve Cotterill has claimed that the Robins created enough chances to deserve victory over Cardiff City in last night's Severnside derby.

The Championship affair finished goalless at the Cardiff City Stadium as City were denied on several occasions by Bluebirds goalkeeper David Marshall.

However, the visitors were close to suffering late heartbreak when Sammy Ameobi prodded wide.

"I'm disappointed for the boys not disappointed in them, had that last chance gone in from Ameobi it would have been a catastrophe," PA quotes Cotterill as saying.

"We did enough to win the game, some of our football was excellent and we had some great efforts on goal.

"For the second game running their goalkeeper was man of the match, we had the same at Brighton in midweek. Marshall was absolutely outstanding."

A point leaves the Robins 20th in the table after 13 games, one point off the bottom three, but Cotterill is confident that his newly-promoted side are adapting to life back in the second tier.

"We've played like we did here all season, that was not a one-off," he added. "Things will turn around for us during the season and it will come back to us."

Up next for City is a visit from Fulham on Saturday.
