The 28-year-old has yet to agree fresh terms with the Clarets and is due to become a free agent when the season ends.
Hendrick, who has been capped 54 times by the Republic of Ireland, has now emerged as a shock rumoured target for Milan.
According to Sky Sports News, the fallen Italian giants signalled their interest in signing the former Derby County player before the coronavirus pandemic.
Milan are believed to be focusing on signing players from the English market, having also come close to landing Antonee Robinson from Wigan Athletic in January.
The Rossoneri are seventh in the Serie A standings ahead of the league's resumption next month.
