Chelsea defender John Terry believes that Brendan Rodgers was key to his development into a key player at Stamford Bridge.

Chelsea defender John Terry has praised Liverpool boss Brendan Rodgers for the impact that he has had on his career.

Rodgers was the youth team coach at Chelsea as Terry was attempting to establish himself in the first team at Stamford Bridge, and the former England skipper is excited to come face-to-face with the Northern Irishman on Sunday when their respective teams meet at Anfield.

The 32-year-old told the Daily Mail: "I know Brendan very well. He's a great manager and was brilliant for myself and the other players. I can only speak highly of him. I'm looking forward to going back and seeing him but three points is a must for us again."

"When Jose Mourinho was there, he was always around and a couple of times I was left out the side or injured. He did a nice little video of me scoring goals, tackles and had a 15, 20-minute chat with me.

"At the time, it was something nobody had ever done, and it just goes to show his man-management and how well he's doing and how well he'll do in the future."

Terry is expected to start Sunday's game on the bench as manager Rafael Benitez continues his rotation policy with his starting lineup.
